Short answer: waterproofing a flat concrete roof or exposed slab in the Philippines typically costs ₱560–₱760 per square meter in 2026, materials and labor included, using a standard flexible cementitious system. Cheaper acrylic coatings run ₱500–₱650/m²; water tank and swimming pool interiors run higher, ₱680–₱990/m², because of slower application and stricter coating requirements. Use the free calculator below to get exact material quantity and cost for your own area, or read on for the full system comparison and what drives the price up or down.

Quick Reference — 2026 Cost Per Sqm

Concrete gutter: ₱480–650/m²  ·  Roof / flat slab: ₱560–760/m²  ·  Roof deck: ₱620–840/m²  ·  Water tank: ₱680–910/m²  ·  Swimming pool: ₱730–990/m²

Total area to be waterproofed, e.g. roof deck length × width
Confined or detailed surfaces cost more per m² to coat
Cementitious is AEDO's default for a standard roof deck
A 3rd coat adds roughly 30% more material and labor
Formula basis: AEDO's internal materials + labor cost model (Aug 2026). Material rate = system unit price ÷ coverage per unit, adjusted for surface-area modifier (gutter 0.85× · roof 1.0× · deck 1.1× · wall 0.95× · tank 1.2× · pool 1.3×). Labor rate = crew day-rate (leadman 0.5 + applicator 2 + laborer 1, SSS/EC/PhilHealth-loaded 2026 wages) ÷ crew output (3 m²/day at 1.0× modifier) × 1.1 factor. Indicative unit prices: acrylic/epoxy base coating ₱3,500/16L pail · primer ₱4,500/20L pail · cementitious set ₱9,000. Why Waterproofing Isn't Just a Finishing Item

On an exposed concrete roof deck or slab, hairline cracks let water — and the chlorides carried in rainwater and humid air — travel straight down to the rebar. Once moisture reaches the steel, it starts corroding; the rust expands, and the expanding steel cracks and spalls the concrete around it from the inside out. That corrosion-and-spalling chain is one of the most common root causes we flag when we inspect older buildings for our structural damage warning signs — by the time you see rust stains bleeding through a ceiling or wall, the damage has usually been progressing for years. Waterproofing an exposed slab isn't cosmetic; it's the cheapest structural maintenance you can do to a building.

The Four Waterproofing Systems Compared

Philippine waterproofing contractors generally quote one of four system types. Each has a different material cost, application method, and expected service life.

🎨

Flexible Acrylic Coating

A brush- or roller-applied acrylic membrane, the cheapest system per square meter. Good for recoating a roof that already has sound waterproofing underneath, or for low-traffic surfaces. Thinner and shorter-lived than reinforced systems, so it's not the right first choice for a deck with active leaks or visible cracking.

🧵

Polyester Reinforced Membrane

A primer coat plus an embedded polyester fabric layer, giving it tensile strength that plain acrylic doesn't have — it bridges hairline cracks that would otherwise re-open and leak through a coating-only system. Costs more per square meter but holds up better on decks that flex or have existing crack patterns.

🧱

Flexible 2-Part Cementitious

A cement-based coating mixed with a liquid polymer, applied in two coats. This is the most common system for Philippine roof decks and exposed slabs — it bonds directly to concrete, tolerates the surface being slightly damp during application, and is mid-priced between acrylic and membrane systems. Our default recommendation for a standard flat concrete roof.

🚰

Tank Lining Epoxy

A dedicated epoxy system for water storage tanks and cisterns, formulated to be safe for contact with potable water once cured. Priced highest per square meter — tank interiors are cramped, slower to coat per crew-day, and the coating itself costs more than the general-purpose systems above.

Cost By Application Area

2-Part Cementitious System — Per Square Meter, by Surface

SurfaceMaterials + laborWhy it differs
Concrete gutters₱480–650/m²Small, easy-access surface — fastest crew output per day
Concrete roofs / flat slabs₱560–760/m²Standard application rate; the baseline reference figure
Roof decks₱620–840/m²More prep and detailing around drains, parapets, and expansion joints
External walls₱530–720/m²Vertical application is slightly faster per m² than deck detailing
Water storage tanks₱680–910/m²Confined space, slower coating rate, stricter finish requirement
Swimming pools₱730–990/m²Slowest application area — curved surfaces, steps, and drains

Swap the cementitious system for acrylic and the same surfaces run roughly 10–15% cheaper; swap it for polyester reinforced membrane and expect roughly 20–25% more, mainly from the embedded fabric material cost.

A Note on These Figures

These ranges come from AEDO's internal materials + labor cost model (Aug 2026), built from current Philippine waterproofing material prices and standard crew productivity rates. They assume normal access and a sound concrete substrate — a roof that needs crack repair or re-screeding before coating will cost more. Always get a written, itemized quote before committing to a project budget, and confirm which system the quote specifies.

What Drives the Price Up or Down

🔨

Substrate Condition

An existing roof with active cracking, spalled concrete, or exposed rebar needs crack repair and surface preparation before any waterproofing coat goes on — that prep work is a separate line item, not included in the per-sqm rates above.

📐

Detailing Around Penetrations

Roof drains, pipe penetrations, parapet-to-deck junctions, and expansion joints are the most common leak points and require extra flashing or reinforcement — a roof deck with many penetrations costs more than a plain open slab of the same area.

🔁

Number of Coats

Two coats is standard for most systems; a third coat or a protective topcoat (for foot traffic or UV exposure on an accessible deck) adds roughly 25–35% more material and labor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does waterproofing cost per square meter in the Philippines?

A concrete roof or exposed slab typically runs ₱560–₱760 per square meter in 2026 using a standard flexible cementitious system, materials and labor included.

What's the cheapest waterproofing system for a roof deck?

Flexible acrylic coating, roughly ₱500–₱650 per square meter — best for maintenance recoats, not a first application over active cracks.

How much does it cost to waterproof a water tank?

Roughly ₱680–₱910 per square meter with a cementitious system, or more with a dedicated potable-water-safe epoxy lining.

Does waterproofing actually prevent structural damage?

Yes — water reaching rebar through cracks in an unprotected slab is one of the most common causes of corrosion-driven spalling we find during structural assessments. Waterproofing an exposed slab is preventive structural maintenance, not just a finish.

Seeing Leaks or Water Stains? AEDO Can Assess and Fix the Root Cause

A stained ceiling or damp wall can be a simple coating failure — or a sign of deeper crack and corrosion damage. AEDO's ₱5,000 structural assessment identifies which one you're dealing with before you pay for a re-coat that won't hold. For projects in Negros Oriental, AEDO can also handle the waterproofing and repair work directly.
